This site has been created to share with other aspiring gardeners our landshare project. The aim is to chart our progress regularly via our blog and to post photos of our plot to the gallery as it develops.
What is Landshare?
Landshare is a scheme that has been set up by Channel 4's 'River Cottage' programme, whose aim is to unite land owners who are willing to share all or part of their land with enthusiastic growers who have limited or no land. As a result, both land owners and growers yield fruitful reward from this fantastic scheme. To find out how Landshare could benfit you, visit the official Landshare website for more details.
How Landshare helped us
As keen growers, we discovered that our average sized garden was proving too small for our larger ambitions. Already housing a small greenhouse, coldframe and a tiny vegetable patch, we were only just about managing to keep hold of the already established "family" garden area.
As regular viewers of 'River Cottage' we were interested to hear about Landshare. Upon hearing the details, we registered with Landshare in the hope that we would be assisted in our plight for more space to grow as the waiting list for an allotment is, in our area, phenomenal! Within 24 hours of registering ourselves with the scheme, we were lucky enough to be very kindly offered the ideal plot of land by Andrew and Joanne of Kingfishers Smallholding, who had already been registered with the scheme for a number of months.
In exchange for their great generosity, we be will sharing with them the fruits (and veg!) of our labour.
